Since 2017, I have been documenting the unique and aspirational subculture surrounding all-female teams of drum majorettes in South Africa, known as ‘Drummies,’ and the way the sport visibly empowers the young women involved. I’m really excited to be working on a photobook of the images, to be published by the wonderful Gost Books @gost_books with an essay by art critic, curator and writer, Christine Eyene. @eyonart.prjx. I was SO nervous about raising funding for the book via the Kickstarter (as I am sure many people will know!) but I am overwhelmed by the support it has received.
