The video was a symbolic act of defiance in support of women’s rights and the revolutionary uprising which has swept Iran since the death of #MahsaAmini, a 22-year-old Kurdish woman who was murdered while in custody of the morality police in Tehran.⁠ ⁠ “Our true heroes are the nameless people. We do not cross out our mistakes. We practice and learn again. The ways are countless and the hope for a new day is strong,” Soheila wrote on her Instagram just before she was abducted. Her colleague, theatre Director Hamid Pourazari who appears in the video was also detained and taken to an unknown location by security forces. ⁠ ⁠ There are growing concerns over the health of Soheila who suffers from a rare brain tumor and epilepsy and is at risk of seizures without medication and medical care. The Islamic Republic continues to deny vulnerable prisoners access to lifesaving healthcare and limits contact with their families. ⁠ ⁠ The campaign of mass arrests in recent months which includes a growing number of women artists, journalists, activists and children is an attempt to silence voices and opposition. Those who are detained risk long prison sentence, torture and the death penalty. ⁠ ⁠ TYTW is deeply concerned by reports of these arbitrary mass abductions and arrests of women and girls.
