I want to thank @jdrf_uk for giving me the opportunity to properly reflect on my experience of living with diabetes, and more recently modelling with diabetes. And for everything else that they do in funding life changing research and technology. I’ve recently been realising how important it is to stop and reflect on the experience of living with a chronic illness like diabetes. It can be daily struggle to maintain energy and focus on caring for your health, and taking time to reflect on what feels difficult but also what you are doing well is very important. I really enjoyed talking to JDRF and thinking about how my own perspective on diabetes has changed over the last 6 years, remembering how I used to hide my blood sugar meter under the table at school so as not to draw attention to it, and on one occasion having it confiscated by a teacher who thought I was on my phone! I’m only now learning to take the time and the space I need to treat my blood sugar, but still have days when I can’t be bothered to explain it to people or to have to think about it too much.
