Montgomery, Alabama. 2022 Reproductive Health Services is unfortunately closed, BUT ‘The Powerhouse’ which is right next door is open. I had the most pleasant pleasure of sitting with them this morning on their front porch and hearing about the history of this clinic, the future of this space, and the services they will continue to provide in this house. The clinic that was founded here in 1978, was one of the first clinics to provide abortion services and reproductive healthcare in Alabama. servicing people regardless of their race, gender identity, expression, orientation, religion, or immigration status. one of their abortion doctors, who did the southern circuit Dr. David Gunn was murdered by a religious white supremacist who believed God called on him to murder abortion doctors. Back when the clinic was open people would stay at this house overnight after their abortions, so they could rest. though no longer offer abortion services, the powerhouse is still alive and running and supplies pregnancy tests, condoms, lube, plan b, hand sanitizer, ovulation, and test trips, for free. NO ONE here is paid and everyone is a volunteer, if you got to facebook.com/powerhousemgm you can donate to them. @thepowerhouseal (safe space and house for trans/non binary people) I can’t thank these beautiful folks enough for the time they gave me today, for letting me know where and where NOT to go for my safety, for giving me water and snacks (LORD knows I needed it) and for sharing their experiences of the WHITE SUPREMACISTS THAT STILL harass them here, even with the death threats, bomb threats and harassment they still go on, fucking beautiful. Thank you MIA AND TRAVIS!!! it’s time for me to pack my shiiiiiiitttttt, and head to the next city.
