Earlier this month we had the pleasure to attend the grand opening of the August Wilson house in the legendary Hill District community of Pittsburgh. This building is not a museum of August Wilson’s home (although you can see the family’s apartment where he grew up). Instead it is a facility where budding artists can work together and collaborate. An artist in residency program serves as a big part of the programs offered here to ensure budding artists gave a place to evolve. This is a celebration Wilson’s legacy as well as a space for artists to create and perform. I look forward to watching performances in the beautiful outdoor theater and watching future generations of writers blossom.
