North Atlantic right whale "Scarf" is easily spotted by the bright white scars on his head! Scarf (Catalog #1429), a 40-year-old male, was seen by our right whale researchers swimming near their research vessel. The next day, he joined a surface-active group (SAG) with Catalog #3720, a 15-year-old female, and another individual! A surface-active group is a group of right whales that is actively socializing at the surface of the water — like Scarf and the other whales below!
