I’ve been contemplating on whether or not to post this for a few days now, but I think that people need to hear this. I struggle with body image issues, I have for years. And I’m not saying what I’m about to say to get attention, I just want everyone to know that if you are going through the same thing, you are not alone. The enemy’s greatest tactic is trying to make you believe the lies he tells you. But let me be clear, they are nothing but lies.
There is a God up in Heaven who loves you more than you could possibly grasp. He handmade you and knit you together in your mothers womb (Psalm 139:13) and he created you with the utmost love. You were not a mistake. I’m writing this to be honest with you. I’ve struggled the majority of my life with how I look and how others perceive me. Almost every day I look in the mirror and I think about what could be better; I think about what I could change. But that way of thinking is so corrupted and here’s why:
When you say bad things about yourself or constantly wish you looked different, you are criticizing the very body that God made specifically for you. When I think awful things about my body, I’m saying those things about the little girl in the 5th and 6th pictures. In reality, I would never say those things to her, so why do I say them to myself now? God created each of us for a special purpose, that’s why we’re not all made the same.
I heard this from someone a couple days ago and thought I would share it: “we often look at sunsets and think how beautiful they are and how amazing God is but then we look at our bodies with disgust and wonder why we look the way we do. We act like God didn’t make BOTH with love and care.” I think we often forget that yes, sunsets are masterpieces, but so are you.
