PART 2. In the summer of 2006, I went to Washington State with @rafaelrios__ and attended the Warped Tour summer concert. I went there to photograph teenagers for my book “We are Experienced.” I look at these photos and feel affection for the person I was. I think back on me as an ambitious person who wanted to have her voice heard and share the experiences of random strangers, specifically random young people. Those shoots were physically challenging but conceptually simple. Me and one assistant arriving in a city and then headed straight to the Home Depot to buy a rolling cart to serve as a home base for my equipment. Photo gear is a lot lighter now, but at the time, I would be transporting so much weight, a film camera, a Pro photo portable pack with crazy batteries, C stands, lighting diffusion, everything. We would take photographs all day, walk from end to end to find the best faces, the greatest style or energy. I always refer to this time in my life as “Photo Boot Camp. “ I wish I could go back and photograph more of the Warped Tour concerts because these looks are everything
