So you’re thinking about booking a shoot? Here’s 7 things to help you through the process. 1. Research • Research the photographer/videographer you want to hire. Are they legit? Are they active on social media? Do you genuinely like their work? What about reviews? 2. Budget • Listen, I don’t know who told some of y’all that Professional photographers are the same price as going to Jcpenney photos but that’s far from the truth 😂 Your professional photographer/videographer is so much more than a button pusher and you’re booking more than a shoot. You’re booking an experience. So please plan your budget accordingly. Not just for the shooter, but also for makeup, haircut/hair, outfits, location permits, props, etc. 3. Vision • What are you looking for? Being able to explain the vision in your head for how you want your shoot to look is important. Don’t worry about explaining everything perfectly. If you need help, Pinterest is your best friend for inspo. 4. Shoot Date • Having a date in mind for when you want to shoot is important for obvious reasons. You want to make sure you and your shooter’s availability aligns. Your shooter has other bookings and a life. They may be busy or booked on the day you want to shoot so it’s always good to have a backup date as well just in case. 5. Location • Where do you want to shoot? A studio, a fancy AirBnb, a botanical garden? That’s important to know. Also keep in mind, there are some locations that requires a commercial photography permit. That’s just a fancy way of venues saying, “you have to pay to shoot here.” 6. Outfits • What are you wearing? Quick tip: if you order an outfit for a shoot, try it on immediately once it’s delivered. Do not wait until the day of the shoot to try on the outfit just to find out it doesn’t fit correctly. Try it on in advance so you could make any necessary pivots. 7. Booking in advance • Don’t wait until last minute or you may risk the shooter and preferred time slot for your venue being already booked.
