Mark your calendars! We are very excited to be announcing the first edition of The Second Encounter Film Festival! Organized in the framework of Metropolis’ Cinematheque Beirut project, this film festival is dedicated to the history of cinema, showcasing classics, restored films and films that re-use archival material. The festival will include screenings, talks and presentations and will take place in Beirut from the 20th until the 26th of January 2023. Stay tuned for our program reveal! In 2015, Metropolis Cinema presented a film program called “The Second Encounter” to celebrate the work of Lebanese film producers such as Assia Dagher, Jean-Pierre Rassam and Gabriel Boustany focusing on their innovative vision and their artistic influence on the international film industry. Today, we reconceive this event as an invitation to (re)discover, question and engage with film archives, encountering them in a new light and bringing them into our present. This festival is organized with the support of the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Beirut and the Network of Arab Alternative Screens (NAAS). ‎سجِّلوا هذه التواريخ! يُسعِدنا الإعلان عن النسخة الأولى من مهرجان “اللقاء الثاني” السينمائي! ‎يأتي هذا المهرجان في إطار مشروع “سينماتيك بيروت” التابع لـ”متروبوليس سينما”، وهو مكرَّس لتاريخ السينما وستُعرَض خلاله أفلام كلاسيكيّة واخرى مُرمَّمة فضلاً عن أفلام تعيد إستخدام مواد أرشيفيّة. سيتضمّن المهرجان عروض أفلام وندوات وحوارات وسيُقام في بيروت من 20 إلى 26 كانون الثاني/ يناير 2023. ترقّبوا الإعلان عن البرنامج قريباً! ‎في عام 2015، نظَّمت جمعيّة “متروبوليس سينما” فعاليّة سينمائيّة بعنوان “اللقاء الثاني” للاحتفاء بأعمال منتجي أفلام لبنانيين مثل آسيا داغر وجان بيير رسّام وغبريال بستاني، ولتسليط الضوء على رؤيتهم الابداعيّة وتأثيرهم الفنّي على الصناعة السينمائيّة العالميّة. نُعيد اليوم إحياء هذه الفعاليّة كدعوة لاكتشاف الأرشيف السينمائي والتفاعل معه وطرح المسائلات حوله، وذلك بهدف النظر إليه بطريقة مبتكرة ووصله بحاضرنا. ‎يُنظَّم هذا المهرجان بدعم من السفارة النرويجية في بيروت و”شبكة الشاشات العربية البديلة” (“ناس”). @naas_network #cinema #archives #filmfestival #filmrestoration #beirut
