Mahsa Amini was a 22 year old woman who was visiting relatives in Tehran, Iran. She was brutally tortured to death by Iranian morality police authorities after being arrested for improper wearing of the hijab. It’s so heart breaking what’s happening to this day in Iran. Please share and help be the voice of those who are being censored and silenced in Iran. I grew up in Iran until I was 9, post revolution and during the almost end of Iran-Iraq war. I live with severe ptsd of speaking up as we were conditioned in fear to not speak up back then. I haven’t said anything politically out of that fear to this day- but today I am. Because enough is enough. My mother was collected and taken to the same detention center (“Khiyaban Vozara Gasht Ershad center” ) as Mahsa Amini was. My mom was taken countless times for not wearing her hijab right with a bit of her hair showing. The women in there would be abused and assaulted for breaking the Islamic law. The guards verbally assault the women to get a reaction and if you spoke up and answered back, you would be beaten and tortured. My mom was one of the luckier women that avoided serious punishment- I would wait after school for hours for someone to come pick me up while my dad was trying to get anyone to help and get my mom out. This happened and to this day keeps happening to women in Iran. My aunt went to prison for years due to her activism against the Islamic regime. She endured the most aweful forms of mental, emotional, and physical torture. She was taken to be executed countless times- but missed the bullet every time in the almost decade she was incarcerated. Enough is enough ! We need a new government in Iran. I stand in solidarity with the women and families of women who live this nightmare in Iran every day. Let our voices be heard in support of those fighting for human and women’s rights in Iran. A change of government where people of Iran can have freedom and peace to live their lives without religious run government and oppression. My heavy heart is with all Iranians and Mahsa Amini’s family and loved ones. #mahsaamini #womensrights #freeiran
