Mami, I’m on the cover of a magazine!!! My mom is always the first person I think of when I accomplish something that’s important to me, because I go back to her arriving in a country she didn’t know with two small children... just to give them a better life with better opportunities. I also hear her telling me that I can do anything and I value so much the fact that she never questioned my passion or pressured me into studying in a more « promising » field than fashion. I know today that having the full support of your mom (or any other important figure in your life) is precious and has a tremendous impact in your self-confidence. I started evolving in the fashion industry at the end of 2005, I always worked really hard and I’m so proud that 17 years down the line, I’m still here and I have a voice that is recognized in the biz. I’m also proud that I always stood my ground on what fashion should be : inclusive and accessible to all! That is the essence of this @nuances_magazine Fashion & Beauty issue, which was wonderfully led by @mllegeri. I feel so lucky to have worked with her because when it comes to style, I think Geri is my soulmate! I share her vision, I admire her creativity and I love that she will never settle for basic! Many of you know that second hand fashion is central to my values. I’ve been thrifting for almost 30 years, I’ve always tried to bring it forward and I couldn’t be happier that all the clothes from the cover + cover story were found @magasinlechainon (either “as is” or upcycled by Geri)! The last thing I want to say is... I really hope I make you want to get the magazine (just follow the link in my bio). Nuances is a black-owned local business that is making a difference and giving a voice to the beautiful diversity we find in Montreal. And I definitely think that’s something we should all support!
