There’s nothing wrong with me or any mother who suffers from a #perinatalmoodandanxietydisorders ❌Society has it wrong-parenting is not meant to be done alone. Mothers need a village of support to raise a child, we cannot do it alone. Oh and paid leave because childbirth is not a vacation. ❌Antidepressants need to be normalized in motherhood. I’m no less of a mother and it took me out of the darkest trench in my #postpartumjourney ❌During the pandemic if I had online social support sooner I may not have suffered for so long in silence. Sharing similar experiences in motherhood has helped normalize parenting let alone #pandemicparenting is hard!! Not every moment is 🌈 and 🦋 ❌Having hormonal fluctuations during and after pregnancy effected my brain chemistry. Now I’m on a journey to discover how to manage this sensitivity. ❌Therapy needs to be normalized during pregnancy and in motherhood. Risk factors for these mood disorders should be discussed in advance by healthcare providers. The research shows your relationship with your mother and your childhood experiences can show up in the perinatal period. I continue to see a therapist weekly to help process years of trauma and generational trauma. There’s nothing wrong with being 1️⃣in 3️⃣women of color with PMADs like me. It is a very real experience and I am getting better.
