I’m going to a World Cup... I’ve spent the past few days reflecting on what it means to me. To the 6 year old girl who just turned up to her first session with a group of boys laughing. Be brave, soon they will see your sparkle and be friends for life. To the 16 year old girl who’s just moved 4 hours away from her family to go to college and follow her dreams of playing rugby for England. Be brave, you’re going to miss a lot of family time, your little brother growing up, shopping trips with mum and bear hugs from dad. Soon you will make your England debut and see how proud they are of you. To the 18 year old girl moving to London having picked up her first England 7s professional contract. Be brave, you’re going to spend a lot of this time injured. You will learn how to be mentally strong as well as physically. Here you will make some of your best friends and the most amazing memories too. To the 21 year old who left her dream of going to an Olympics to join the 15s. Be brave, this is going to be the hardest decision you’ll ever make and your hearts going to ache. Soon you will be prepping for a World Cup, watching some of your best friends do amazing things out in Tokyo and you will feel proud of every single one of them. And finally to the 23 year old who’s just been selected for her first World Cup. Be brave, you’ve come a long way, you’re the strongest you’ve ever been, the fittest you’ve ever felt and the confidence you have shows when you take to the pitch. This isn’t the finished article, infact this is just the start. So be brave... you’ve got a World Cup to win...
