@hazel_findlay was my main climbing partner for our 6 weeks in Greenland and she was incredible. It had been many years since we’d seriously climbed together (we’d been on a few different expeditions over the years); I’d almost forgotten just how talented she is. But this trip was a good reminder that she’s one of the best climbers in the world, particularly at the styles required by these walls: technical, adventurous, and thoughtful climbing on tricky gear. Our second day on the Pool Wall stands out. It was definitely below freezing temps, with an icy wind, and she left the portaledge to go clean a terribly rotten finger crack so that we’d be able to free it. She spent over an hour dangling in freezing wind working it out and then lead the pitch with no complaints. I was so glad to top rope it.... And so grateful to have a strong partner who could take some of the unpleasant leads... And through it all she maintained as good of spirits as one could hope for on a difficult 6 week trip! All that to say: thanks, Hazel. It was a pleasure climbing together again. Photos: Hazel toproping the pitch before her impressive lead on the Pool Wall the evening before (with our ledges visible down below), the rest are us on the second to last pitch and the summit of Ingmikortilaq.
