·The Empress of China Robe· So I wanted to share the process of making this piece for the 21st Detroit Awards Ball. The category is calling for China, so I wanted to represent my culture in its most opulent and regal form. I was really inspired by Gongli’s look in the movie Curse of the Golden Flower and Chinese first Empress Wu Zetian. I wanted to create huge sleeves that opens up like butterfly wings and have the bottom of the robe looking like petals.
