Meet with Symrise Master Perfumer Emilie Coppermann 3/6 . Where does this obsession with creating come from? I don’t know, I grew up in Paris immersed in a particular perfume culture. I know my classics like the back of my hand. My grandmother and most of her friends were wearing No 5 or pretty heady fragrances. At home, my parents wore very light scents, sometimes none at all. I was surrounded with a very diverse palette of scents to smell from which was super fascinating for me as a young girl educating her nose ! That might explain why I am writing scents that are sensual, powerful and long-lasting, but I always try to make sure that they come with a delicate signature. . What is your relationship with Paris, city of your birth and the place where you still live? I love this city! I cycle as much as possible. One of the places I love is the Jardin du Luxembourg. I used to visit it as a kid with my parents and we live nearby today. I often go there and I play tennis there every weekend. What’s amazing about it is the way that things don’t change. There are still the same boats on the lake opposite the Senate, still the same wooden merry-go-round I played on as a child. The Jardin du Luxembourg stays the same but everything around it changes, and it’s wonderful to be able to return to it again and again. It’s the same with perfumery: everything’s constantly changing but it’s still great to be able to turn to Jicky and Shalimar when you want to.
