I almost let today go by without sharing my favorite Octavia E. Butler story that involves my favorite person in the world dressed in white, my grandmother ( ♋️), who walked up to Butler at a book fair and invited her to join her book club one month. She agreed, and because she didn’t drive, my grandma and her homegirls went to pick her up from her home in Pasadena, brought her to LA, fed her, and spent hours discussing her work and “regular things”. I found this photo and several others in 2016 and still can’t get over how casual Gram’s response was when I freaked out and how much joy they look like they shared. Happy Birthday, Octavia E.
