Still buzzing from the beautiful going away Shabbat soirée we hosted Friday on our rooftop. Fit with homemade Turkish eats, mojitos, a Bossanova band, passion fruit filled cake, and a Shabbat ritual. So grateful for this gorgeous community we have built over the past 2 years here!
Some words I shared —
Tonight I invite you to join our family in celebrating Shabbat — a weekly ritual my family has observed for thousands of years.
From sundown Friday to sundown Saturday, we are meant to refrain from work and instead allow space for the spiritual. To go from the constant “doing” of our modern lives to the elevated “being”.
We light candles, and say a blessing over the flames, the challah bread, and the kiddish wine, turning the mundane to the meaningful and ushering in this beautiful weekly holiday.
A rabbinic scholar, Abraham Joshua Heschel, described Shabbat as “a palace in time” — explaining that rather than thinking of Shabbat as a few hours given to us each week, that we should think of the sabbath as a this incredible place that always exists — it’s just a question of when and how we tap into it.
For us, moving from the rat race, ladder climbing, go-go-go of New York City, to the sweetness of Mallorca and to all of you — this beautiful community we have built — has become our palace in time. Words finished in slideshow 🤍.
