A long drive in the dark down a paved road. Take a left onto a dirt road to a farm. Ask permission with smiles, handshakes and a slab of beer. Drive toward the ocean. Park, unload the motos from the trucks. Shuttle bodies and gear, riding doubles through muddy paddocks stocked with sheep. Set up camp in a sheltered cove. Squeeze into a 5mm and punch through the shorebreak. No one else for miles. Pull into some close-outs and surprise yourself by making a few. You can see the storm out there coming in off the Antarctic. It begins to snow. The wind picks up. The snow turns to rain. Last wave. Break down camp. Shuttle everything on motos again back to the trucks. Freeze your ass off as you slip out of your wetsuit in the back of a sheep-shearing shed. Cold beers on the way out. Thank the farmer.
