2022 Ascender @herzbergdesignco was brought on board by film director @la_foaf to design a typeface behind the cosmic horror film, While Mortals Sleep. (You might have spotted the film at this year’s Sundance Festival) “The typeface, dubbed Thanatos after the Jungian death drive, features serifs and corners so sharp you may accidentally cut yourself on them. Nonetheless, the letters still appear robust by maintaining an unusual contrast structure, inspired by the woodcut forms of Albertus, John Carpenter’s signature credit typeface.” writes Matthijis.
