It’s also the one-year anniversary of the release of my last project “Sugarcane” w/ my brother @blvkm0nd4y My grandfather came from Hanover, Jamaica 🇯🇲 . Always told the stories of him not having shoes as a kid. Helped over 150 people come to the US and start their lives from Jamaica. Values, culture, strength, love and wisdom! He was a hard ass so they called him Pharaoh. He was the sweetest person to me though lol. He worked his ass off, he took care of his family and lived a good life. Went back to Jamaica, built a house and Enjoyed the fruit of his labor until the end! He’d only come visit New York in the summer after a while but he taught us the value of owning things and work. I am able to make music And live out my dreams because of the work that my grandparents did in this country to ensure I would have the freedom to do so. Even though labor day honors all of the workers in this country. In BROOKLYN the parade is all about the West Indian and Caribbean people dancing and eating it and representing culture. I will always be grateful for the unique space that I sit in as a second generation child of an immigrant. Happy Labor Day y’all!
