At approx 82 ft wide and 650 ft deep, the sinkhole is located in a copper mining area approx 400 miles north of capital city Santiago. The mayor of Tierra Amarilla, a small commune in the area, blamed the incident on the overzealous and ‘unmeasured’ activities by mining companies that control the property.
