On this day in 1957, John Coltrane recorded with the John Coltrane Sextet (John Coltrane, Lee Morgan, Curtis Fuller, Kenny Drew, Paul Chambers and "Philly" Joe Jones) at Van Gelder Studio in Hackensack, NJ. These recordings were released on a LP titled "Blue Train" by John Coltrane in January 1958. This contact sheet of Francis Wolff images is from that day. To honor its 65th anniversary, @bluenoterecords will be celebrating this incredible moment in music history by releasing it in two different formats. One as a single LP mono pressing in a deluxe gatefold jacket, and another as a 2xLP edition titled 'Blue Train: The Complete Masters' featuring a second disc of alternate takes of tracks. You can pre-order it now before it's available tomorrow. Link in bio.
