An update on Snow Cone: North Atlantic right whale “Snow Cone” was sighted by our team yesterday newly entangled and in extremely poor health. The aerial survey team was flying 15 miles south of Nantucket when they saw Snow Cone. Since we began documenting her entanglements 18 months ago, her condition has dramatically worsened. The decline in her condition is indicative of the strain caused by her ongoing entanglements. Scientists took detailed notes to share for potential disentanglement efforts when weather conditions improve. Sadly, any efforts are unlikely to save Snow Cone, as her condition is too far deteriorated.
