Honestly... Some days I think about how far I’ve come in the journey of accepting who I am & the culture that I come from. For some folks, accepting your culture is easy. For some — like me — it was one of the hardest journeys I’ve ever had to go on — because I had become REALLY good at accepting, and conforming to, the model minority myth. I was good at making myself palatable — and at the time, it often felt like it was far easier to fit in, than to speak my heart and exist in my truth. So here we are. A long way from where we were, with I’m sure with more to go— But at least, for the first time in my adult life, at home in myself, my ancestry, my culture and my truth.
