‘What is seen & What is not’ on at the @vamuseum until the 25th September. A series of solo site specific interventions by Osman Yousefzada, exploring, movement, migration and identity. Stretching from the Main entrance in Cromwell Road to the Madjeski Gardens: Intervention 1 Main Lobby - A triptych of tapestries painted, printed and embroidered, developed from my print making practice and inspired by the Falanama. The book of Omens which circulated as a set of Tarot Cards in Ottoman and Mughal India are portals and talismans of migration. Intervention 2 (shown) Gallery 25 - A shrine of scaffolded structure, unravelling hidden stories of working class female migrants. The structure contain small works in Glass, Ceramics & Fabric. In Urdu they are called ‘potli’ in Punjabi they are called ‘pand’ in Pashto ‘panda’. These folds, drapes and knots are signatures and identities - as acts of resistance and agency in domestic spaces. Intervention 3 The Madjeski gardens - A series of sculpted seating, reclaimed colonial doors whose axis have been changed from Vertical to Horizontal so anyone can sit on them. A Tetris sculpture that is a cube but when used it dissipates into the surroundings. All around a painted black boat with banners and ‘Alams’ of our textile colonial histories
