The greatest, happiest moment of my musical life happened yesterday at @newportfolkfest. I miraculously got to sing my two favorite songs (Come In From The Cold and Amelia) by my all time favorite songwriter WITH my all time favorite songwriter @jonimitchell. She was so confident and so profound that every line she sang resonated with every single person there down into their bones. A lot of tears were shed. A lot of people didn’t think this would ever be possible again. They counted her out. But she shimmied onstage with the biggest smile I’ve ever seen and proved everyone wrong. I’m so in awe. I can’t stop replaying every detail in my head. The whole set was masterful - @celissemusic @blakemills @benlusher @marcusmumford @ilovelucius @phil_hanseroth @timhanseroth and good ol’ Rick from Joni’s (I don’t know his last name) all blew my mind and broke me down. But most of all, @brandicarlile. Holy shit. Not only does she have arguably the greatest voice in the world, but she’s why this happened. Her love and care for Joni and her commitment to build a supportive community around her is unyielding and deeply inspiring. Her generosity and leadership know no bounds. I’m indebted to you forever, Brandi. Thanks for the invite into the Joni Jam world. And I promise to continue to maintain restraint when it comes to wanting to fully fanboy/nerd out on Joni about every song on every record. And a big thank you to @newportfolkfest for continuing to give the platform to us artists to experience all sorts of life changing moments year after year.
