#TDCAscenders winner @chriscaldwell90 designed a reverse contrast typeface, Garden, inspired by the book design work of Sarah W. Whitman (1842-1904). Whitman was an American stained glass artist, painter, and book cover designer who became renowned at a time when few women had professional art careers. Chris specifically loved how her letters brought an organic yet playful texture to her pages. (Whitman’s book designs seen in image 3 and 4.) His seamless application of Garden on graphics inspired by vintage seed packaging set a beautiful stage for the typeface, which is to be released later this year.
