🖼 There is often more to a single photo than meets the eye! This is also the case with this image by photographer Katharina Jaeger, who presented it during the group exhibition ‘Origin’ at the University of Arts in Kassel, Germany. _____ Katharina about the idea behind the photo: “The porcelain duck was photographed on a wallpaper background, which matches the wallpaper of the living room of my childhood, where this duck stands since then. The small crack in the neck area of the figurine relates to the story: During a shopping tour with my grandmother and my mother when I was about 3 or 4, I climbed into a shop window to ‘save’ a blue teddy bear that fell in. This lead to the breaking of several porcelain objects and my family was obliged to pay for the costs due to liability. My grandmother thought ‘If we have to pay for something, then we can as well take it with us’, so we took the duck home, glued its head back on and since then it has served as some kind of ‘small memorial’ in our living room.” This artwork is about guilt & blame, the reflection of civil moral values and the impact it has on self-perception.
