Thank you @ucilatinx for bringing me in to lead a 6 class mural workshop. I was able to speak to 4 classes from Chicano art history majors to pop culture art classes. Then worked with the @ucilatinx and their student leaders on building a team to paint a 9’x12’ mural that will live in the Latinx Resource Center on campus. I loved all the students that I got to spend a month with and I’m sad it’s over. The students thought about everything they love, words, pictures, patterns, foods, colors, flowers, things on campus, anything that inspired them and portrayed Latinx at UCI. Here are some of the words and images that made the final design. Papel picado with uci references, nopal, UCI mascot Peter, some crazy little robot Zot Bot that delivers food and drinks anywhere on campus, hummingbirds, raised fist, Jacaranda tree and flowers, folklorio dancers, La Lucha Sigue, Resciliencia , fuerza, cultura. The second picture is the students learning how to use a projector and outline what they will be practicing spray painting. And the last picture is the final design the students chose to represent LatinX students at UCI @ucilatinx The students were awesome and did amazing on their first mural. #zaoone #ucirvine #sprayplanet #mtn94 #latinx #cultura
