Want to come on a quick lab tour of @theslowfactory labs? 👀 In this video I am showing our new material developed using a tea and coffee waste stream forming bacteria nano-cellulose weaving hides—hence the name of the material slowhide, one word like cowhide but no animals are involved in this process. It is a plant-based fully circular model that explores leather-like bio-designed materials. The dye process was achieved in collaboration with two different experts, a group working with plant dyes and a group working with bacteria-based dyes. We are so excited to be contributing to advancing this method closer and closer to being able to be used in the market at large and hopefully replacing all plastic based leathers and all animal leather in the near future. What’s amazing about this is that is a waste stream process not relying directly on industrial agriculture and providing a tangible solution to a harmful material for all industries using leather.
