“...to enunciate life, life that is exorbitant, capacious, and fundamentally social, though it is also life that is structured through and engulfed by brutal violence.” I continue to meditate on this quote by @ashoncrawley in Blackpentecostal Breath: The Aesthetics of Possibility. It continues to be a refuge for me as we navigate so much violence, terrorism, and imperialist systems that are sustained by the the two aforementioned things. The 2021 exhibition Enunciated Life was inspired by this quote, and was made to offer considerations around alternative ways of living toward freedom through art, imagination and spirit, despite or in the wake of such violences.
I’m forever indebted to the artists who contributed to this show and collective vision.
Thank you to @ellalosangeles , @elonschoenholz , @_joet , @ashoncrawley and Cameron Shaw for their contributions to this beautiful catalogue that documents the exhibition. I hope that in reading it, people will be hopeful and empowered to persist toward getting free.
This catalogue is @caaminla ‘s first published catalogue under the museums new publishing initiative. Enunciated Life is available @reparations.club , @arcanabooks , and @printedmatterinc .
