”back in the autumn of 2007, four friends sharing a garage workshop were unexpectedly approached by absolut vodka to create an art installation. a year later, after long nights of building and coding, it was ready – the absolut choir – a machine made out of 22 wooden dolls that sang in harmony. design-wise, the dolls were inspired by wooden characters from all around the world. from the russian matryoshka to characters like pinocchio by carlo collodi. each doll had its own story and its own characteristic voice - and behind it all was a computer algorithm that selected and reinterpreted songs. this choir is a celebration of over 10 years together as a group of friends exploring design, technology and sound. without the absolut choir there would be no OP-1, no pocket operators, speakers or synths. there wouldn’t even be a company named teenage engineering.” - jesper kouthoofd
