Neo Noir. @valerialipovetsky by me. This shoot will always be memorable for so many reasons, including working with some of my favourite people in the industry AND reconnecting with my dear friend Valeria, whom I hadn’t seen in nearly a decade! But it became something more when Valeria came out of wardrobe wearing this outfit which, in my very cinematic mindset, I saw as the full embodiment of nearly all the elements of the Film Noir genre, with a modern twist. Neo-Noir film directors refer to 'classic Film Noir' with the use of Dutch angles, the interplay of light & shadows, unbalanced framing, the blurred lines between good & bad, right & wrong, and thematic motifs including revenge, paranoia, antiheroes and femme fatales. Unbeknownst to my muse and crew at the time, I tried to incorporate many of these very principles and themes while creating this image, despite the fact that they had absolutely nothing to do with with the shoot.
