‘Elspeth, use the glitter filter plz’. 💅🏻 In this week’s @esmagazine, fronted by my ultimate icon, Fran Lebowitz, I discuss S3x therapist @katemoyletherapy’s notion of ‘should s3x’ and why we all need to shed ourselves of the shackles of s3xual shoulds. ❌The problem is, Kate points out, we live in a society in which the primary model of s3x reinforced through messaging on tv, in porn, online etc, is heteronormative, gendered and almost universally focused on penetrative (penis in vagina) s3x. ❌Hence, the depictions of S3x we’re all regularly confronted with reinforce a reductive, often idealised version of s3x that leaves us feeling like s3x has to be one specific way and if we step outside of that, then we’re doing something ‘wrong’. But that excludes so many routes to s3xual pleasure... 🍑Shout out to the @clittest for calling out the woeful underrepresentation of the clit on screen. And props to Good Luck, Leo Grande for taking a big step towards changing that by celebrating the clit in all its glory. Times they be a changing....
