“Unable to perceive the shape of you, I find you all around me.” Though Guillermo del Toro's Oscar-winning modern fairy tale “The Shape of Water” is set in Baltimore, the filming locations can also be found in Toronto and Hamilton, Ontario. Due to the great work of the production designers the spots are not that easy to recognize: The Massey Hall in Victoria Street, Toronto, was transformed into the Orpheum theatre and the entrance to Elisa’s (Sally Hawkins) apartment. For the interior shots of the cinema they used the Elgin theatre around the corner. Among the other locations there are the John Andrews Building in the Scarborough campus of the University of Toronto as research facility (2nd pic) and the Lakeview Restaurant in Dundas Street West as Dixie Doug‘s (3rd pic). Fun fact: The diner from 1932 was also used in “Cocktail” with Tom Cruise and “Hairspray”. 🎬 #theshapeofwater #sallyhawkins #toronto #filmlocation #movielocation #filminglocation #filmtourist #filmtourism #setjetting
