The first time I went to @basementbhangra I was probably 20 years old. To see @djrekha play to a crowd of South Asians and so many other brown and black folks - and blend bhangra, hip hop, dancehall, bollywood was jawdropping to me then. It’s one of the things that made me feel like I as a dark skinned brown femme could maybe one day be a DJ. Recognizing who and what paved the way for us as scenes build, grow, and transform is so so important and I never forget the role Basement Bhangra had on nightlife and so many South Asians in NYC and the tristate area to feel seen. 💿🪘 On Saturday, August 6th, 2-7pm, I’m performing alongside a host of fire South Asian artists at @djrekha’s 25th anniversary @basementbhangra at Central Park @summerstage in NYC.
