For every good thing, there’s an end and today was our last day on the beautiful island of St. Thomas.
I started the morning, with some much-needed skincare and the @ernolaszlonyc Eye Mask, doing its best to hide the fact that sleep was cut short the night before. A small moment of care before saying goodbye.
Before heading to the airport, we took one last little tour of the island and ended up somewhere special buying fresh coconuts from Haitian vendors. What started as a quick stop turned into laughter, teasing, stories, and so much warmth. One of the vendors proudly showed us what he was planting and cultivating on his land, and for a moment, it felt like a piece of Haiti found us in St. Thomas. The coconut water was sweet, refreshing, and full of memories we didn’t know we needed. If we weren’t missing Haiti before, we definitely were after that moment.
Then it was time for the airport. I wouldn’t be myself if I didn’t find some soup. So of course, I had a comforting bowl of chicken soup at the airport from Hibiscus Cafe. Before takeoff, I squeezed in one last pumping session so I could head home with milk ready for Yaya. Little things that remind me exactly who I am in this season.
As the plane lifted and St. Thomas disappeared beneath us, I felt it clearly; I was leaving behind stress, worries, and heaviness, and carrying back memories, rest, and gratitude. I arrived home, refreshed, and full. Even with the cold waiting for me, I was happy to be back
because home is where the heart is.
And my heart, was with my daughter and my husband.
Grateful for this trip. Grateful for the sisterhood. Grateful to return home renewed.
Until the next journey. 👋
