My dear brother @jonbutcheraxis and I check in with each other often. Over the span of our 30 year friendship our calls have covered a wide variety of topics. Today we discussed the current crisis situation in the United States regarding gun violence, specifically the civilian variants of the semi-automatic firearm and their use in mass shootings including half of the 10 deadliest mass shootings in US history. We offered each other a cascade of ideas and solutions as well as shared ideas of what we can do as independent American musicians to speak up and actually reach folks hearts and minds in an effort to influence our elected legislators to take action. Importantly, we discussed the hope that artists of all types in the entertainment industry especially those with a far wider reach than either Jon or I, will also take a moment this weekend to engage with one another and have similar conversations offering ideas and solutions on ways to cast your wide nets for nationwide outreach to demand action.
