Whoa! Haven’t posted in a while...basically took the last two months off! Time flies when life happens! A wedding & its attendant celebrations! A death in the family & its attendant rituals! A major surgery for an in-law & its attendant worries! A vacation! A milestone birthday! And just like that...it’s fall! We have been shooting and traveling and a lot of that stuff isn’t ready to share. But I’ve got a few shoots from earlier this year to explain and upon which I can shine a light (never end a sentence with a preposition, my grandmother always said). We’re going to start off with THE OTHER set from the “Jurassic World: Dominon” shoot...The Malta Cafe. Ah yes. The Malta Cafe. @photobuffalo and I did a lot of picture research on the island Republic (scroll to the end) and found that the street lights were amber! Perfect! And then we found the Legligin cafe and our search was over! Now all we had to do was build it. So our amazing art department (@nikolaigonzalo @Abracatrena @erincpetersen @sammyprimero and @addbacon) put up a wall and a window and a door and a cobble stone sidewalk and some tables and chairs and some bougainvillea (my favorite) and about 14 Easter eggs for all you JURASSIC fans out there (please submit your list for the judges). And then...we lit it. @samanassefi and @avellanophoto started with a single @profoto beauty dish wrapped in an amber gel and hoisted it as high as possible. Then we added three gridded, large @chimeralighting softboxes as an overall fill and two amber covered, gridded 7” reflectors to pop the darker spots in the frame and push the light across the set. And for good measure, an umbrella behind the door to make it glow. Once talent was on set, we had to create three moments that give the impression that the actors were just hanging out on a beautiful Maltese night.
