With only three days left until the official opening of our new gallery at the Fuller Building, we are looking back at some of the landmark exhibitions that have taken place in this historic site... From Willem de Kooning’s first ever solo exhibition and the unveiling of Robert Rauschenberg’s first Combines (image 4) at Charles Egan Gallery to major exhibitions of Alexander Calder (images 1-2), Isamu Noguchi (image 3), and Barbara Hepworth (image 4), the Fuller Building has been a site of pivotal exhibitions in art history and the heart of the New York art scene. And, of course, it is here that Miró made his American debut at the Pierre Matisse Gallery in 1932. On Wednesday, 90 years later, Miró returns to the Fuller Building in our exhibition ‘Feet on the Ground, Eyes on the Stars’ – we could not be more excited to share it with you soon! —— Image 1: Installation view with ‘Hi!’ (c. 1928) in ‘Calder: Stabiles & Mobiles,’ Pierre Matisse Gallery, New York, 1937.
