NO FUNDAL MASSAGE.... gasp... I said it! I can hear so many of you cringing or squirming in your pants. Stay with me. 👇🏽Ok... first things first... for me to say never is dogmatic and that is not how I practice. I realize there is a time and a place for things... with that being said... I give fundal massage once... maybe twice a year.... usually for mamas that have big clots. My hemorrhage rate after removing fundal massage have DRASTICALLY reduced. Ok... now let’s take a step back and look at this 👀 The way I practice midwifery lies somewhere in-between always listening to moms, my intuitive, great cave grandma wisdom and research sprinkled in the middle. I vividly remember having my fundus massaged followed by the postpartum instructions to continue to do so. It hurt like a B... so maybe i lightly touched it... but I didn’t do it as instructed. What I started noticing is I wasn’t the only one... others moms were not complainant either. I HATED doing it to clients as well... who the hell wants to cause pain to their clients causing them to be super uncomfortable while at the same time trying to have them fall in love with their new baby’s?! So I listened to my intuition and STOPPED... gasp... yep STOPPED. And instead of using my hands for that... I took my hands and used them for something much different and much more gentle... leg massage. In every birth kit I have a carrier oil that I use with @youngliving Cypress oil. It has to be a medical grade oil because remember you are using this for a purpose. I lather their legs up in these oils and they get a massage until the placenta is born. Here’s the best part, moms LOVE this, who doesn’t love massage when it actually feels good, I have something to do with my hands and I have front row seating to assess bleeding. I don’t rush my placentas.... 99% of them usually come within the hour which means they usually get up to an hour massage and you guys.... the amount I noticed my bleeding rates going down with this simple switch of practice was ASTRONOMICAL!! It slows the room down, it releases natural oxytocin, the cypress oil is known to help with reducing bleeding. Continued in comments 👇🏽 #postpartum
