The Yosemite Valley has been inhabited for nearly 3,000 years, and it’s easy to see why. It’s first inhabitants were the native Ahwahnechee people, followed by European settlers who came to the region during the California Gold Rush. It wasn’t until 1906 that President Theodore Roosevelt signed a bill placing Yosemite Valley and Mariposa Grove under Federal protection - and all because John Muir took him camping there three years prior.
