Following their journeys by air can reveal obstacles, such as buildings, farms and herds of livestock, that threaten the important migrations they make to find food and water. Keeping an eye from Save the Elephants’ lightweight aircraft is often the only way to know accurately how many elephants are left in the wild, and how human development is impacting them. Additionally, Kenya is in drought... and the elephants are in trouble. The rainy season has brought little to no rain to elephant habitat and rural communities in Kenya. No rain means no vegetation growth and little food for elephants. In efforts to locate precious food and water, elephants are moving out of the protection of conservation areas and making dangerous journeys into areas where people are not used to them.
