As a queer/trans woman -The struggle of Mahsah Amini is my struggle too. No one should ever be harmed, punished or die for the way they wear fabric. Muslim/Iranian women, Your pain & outrage is righteous! The systematic subordination of women everywhere must end. Women are born free. Women are born free especially to interpret their own spiritual relationship to God, independent Of supervision by men, government and religion. This violence is targeting women & costing the lives and futures of too many young girls and women. Religious freedom, is for women too. Freedom OF & From religious doctrine is a human & spiritual right. Mahsa Amini should still be here with us, she should not have been persecuted for using her head wrap the way she chose to. The enforcement of these interpretations of religious doctrine is demoralizing, dehumanizing & will cause many to believe it is their loving God, that is at war with their bodies. We must end these ideas that force Women and Queer people to believe that God hates them. We must end the weaponization of spirituality, every where. Spiritual Hatred is destroying our humanity and degrading our spirit. I know my voice & my truth isn’t that palpable, coming out of a trans & queer woman’s body- I am already subjected in so many ways, with or without a hijab- my hope however is that my reason does spark a deeper memory of a broader spiritual understanding of the right to life, & peace & safety that we all know deep down inside, each of us living, deserve. All my Love and all my prayer to the Fathers, brothers, cousins, uncles, children and friends of women in Iran, who are standing up for women , as they lead this fight for the liberation of choice for what their freedom looks like.
