OSCAR WILDE’S CELL DOOR
In 1895 Oscar Wilde was imprisoned with hard labour on the charge of gross indecency. Behind this cell door Wilde wrote De Profundis as a letter to his lover on his allocated four sheets of paper per day. He died destitute three years after release at the age of 46. His cell door has been scanned, for the first time in its history, as part of our Virtually Queer project.
You can view the 3D scan on our website now. Visit https://queerbritain.org.uk/vq001
