This past weekend saw the opening of the new TAO Beach day club in Las Vegas and the unveiling of my latest work -the Tao diety "Tendai". The name Tendai was derived from the Tendai lotus school established in Japan in 806. The first Buddhist school in Japan which set out to create a comprehensive and diversified buddhist teaching suited to adapt to other cultures, evolve new practices and universalize Buddhism. The name is also primarily a female name of Zimbabwean origin that means "Be Thankful To God" Welcoming and blessing the guests, The piece stands 5 Meters tall and is made of a variety of materials such as steel, concrete and fiberglass. Due to the weather in Vegas we could not use any real wood in her creation. I also experimented in creating a limited edition of 200 miniature models that were used as invites to a few lucky guests. We are planning to release more in the coming year.
