There isn’t a good way to say this, but if the water in O'ahu continues to willingly be poisoned by leaking jet fuel the US Military is storing near the aquifer, the island will be inhabitable in our lifetime. 💔 It has been a decade of slow poisoning of the main aquifer here on this island leading to over 10,000 people being sick—military personnel relocated while the fuel tanks continue to leak in Red Hill causing an irreversible environmental disaster. 💧 During this trip we have witnessed the contradictions of the US occupation through it’s heavy bombing of sacred land, occupation of sacred sites and blatant pollution of resources. This contrasting with a renaissance of Kanaka Maoli cultural practitioners, water protectors, historians and wisdom holders sharing sacred knowledge with us feeding our spirit our bodies and our souls as we mobilized together to decommission and defuel Red Hill. 💙 Deep Ecology is a project I initiated in partnership with Dr. @uahikea alongside our respective teams @therednationmovement & @theslowfactory in collaboration with @oahuwaterprotectors this past week we were hosted and led by @healanipale who has taken us to sacred sites unavailable to the general public. This week has been an incredible spiritual journey we have prayed, chanted, mobilized, cried, campaigned and managed to reach a major resolution with the University of Hawai’i.
