Yesterday history was made as the Scottish Government voted to make it significantly simpler for trans people to transition, by introducing self-identification of gender. This brings the country in-line with an increasing number of countries in Europe, including Spain who also voted yesterday for the same legislation. These results highlight just how outdated the UK government’s views are on trans rights, with their constant efforts to shut down efforts to improve them, or even remove them, leaving the UK looking increasingly isolated in Europe on this matter. At FOLD, we are delighted with the efforts of the Scottish and Spanish governments to push through this legislation, yet will not rest until the UK government changes their views and starts providing safety, support and healthcare for the trans community. Trans rights are human rights.
